<p>Distributor employs a jack to actuate a toothed rack, which rotates several pairs of pinions through 90 deg. so that pairs of ball valves are opened or closed. Each valve in the same pair is located at one end of a common channel. One fluid (a, or b) is fed into one end of each channel, which has a middle exit. While one valve is open, the other is closed, so that fluid (a) or fluid (b) can be fed to the middle exit, but the two fluids can never be fed simultaneously to the middle exit. Used esp. with tuyeres in the base of a steel making converter, where pressurised N2 (a) used as a scrubbing gas, or domestic fuel oil (b) used to protect the tuyeres, can be fed through an exit (c) in a common channel. Other scrubbing gases may be used instead of N2.</p> |
