PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which excels in the stearly properties and has small wearability, by forming a magnetic layer with content of two specified types of nonmagnetic powder. CONSTITUTION:The nonmagnetic powder (Cr2O3, Al2O3) having large head wearability with high stearyl properties is used along with the nonmagnetic powder (alpha-Fe2O3) having small wearability and low stearly properties. In other words, one or more type of of (a) Al2O3 and Cr2O3 with 0.5-1.5wt% plus (b) alpha-Fe2O3 of 0.5-15wt% (total weight of components a and b: <=20wt%) are put into the magnetic powder to form a magnetic layer. The grain size of the above-mentioned magnetic powder is preferably set to about 0.1-2mu. |
