The appts. provides the required drive force in the desired direction in order that material may be moved by bucket chains. A motor is used to drive a pulley through gearing, and a tooth limits the movement by operating in conjunction with a flexible suspension element and a fixed plate. A transmission cable attached to the tooth and suspension is slaved to a valve piston in a hydraulic valve assembly. As the pulley draws the bucket carrying chain it applies a force to the suspension. The hydraulic valve adjusts the tension in the cable to control oscillatory movement to improve filling of the buckets.
