<p>A device for checking coins comprises a coil sensor, in which an AC-operated transmission coil (12) and a receiver coil (14) stand with their magnetic axes (13 or 15) vertically on top of one another. The coins (11) guided along a coin-loading path (10) through the magnetic field effect a strong coupling of the normally minimally coupled coils due to the eddy currents induced herein.
