<p>The cable drum is typically for use in industrial or domestic installations. The operating principle can be extended to include hoses or ropes. The drums assembly is suitable mounted on a wall or ceiling, and the supply end of the cable attached to a fixed point. The required free length of cable is coiled on a drum, and the end connected to the appliance remains outside the reel housing. The drum rotates about its axis but is also rotated, simultaneously about a second axis perpendicular to the former. This dual action prevents twisting at the fixed end of the cable. Typically there is a sprocket attached to the drum which engages with a bevel gear inside the housing. As the cable is run in, or out, it rotates the drum and, through the gearing, the drum assembly revolves inside the housing.</p> |
