PURPOSE:To obtain an optical switch array simple in constitution, easy to manufacture and enlarging, drivable by low electric power and high in light utilization efficiency by using the first light transmitting medium that changes refractive index according to temperature and the second light transmitting medium that forms a face of incidence and a face of emission. CONSTITUTION:In an optical switch array 1, incident light 7 that advances to a face of incidence 5a of the second light transmitting medium (glass) at an angle of incidence theta' passes through the second light transmitting medium 5 and the first light transmitting medium 4 (transparent plastics) and totally reflected by the surface of a thin film heater 3 (Pt) formed on a substrate 2, and taken out from the face of emission 5b of the second light transmitting medium 5 as reflected light 7'. When current is applied to the thin film heater 3, the first light transmitting medium 4 is heated and its refractive index is changed. As reflected light 7' is subjected to spatial change, it becomes possible to obtain output light that changes intensity spatially by driving arraylike heater 3 independently by a common electrode 8 and an independent electrode 9. |
