There is a piston-and-cylinder unit, and a draw hook connected to the end of the piston-rod, incorporated in equipment attachable to the boom of an excavator, or similar, for withdrawing pieces of trench formwork. The end of the piston-rod (9) is connected to the draw hook (11) via a deflecting device (12,14), converting the rod extension movement (B) into a thrust movement for the hook. This can consist of a length of cable (12) led over a pulley (14). A guide roller (15), forcing the cable into a setting roughly parallel to the piston-rod, can also be incorporated. With compact dimensions, this permits the required powerful draw forces to be brought to bear, by economical means.
