The carburettor has a primary air passage with a throttle operated by the accelerator pedal. A secondary air passage contains a throttle operated by a membrane subjected to the suction pressure downstream of the throttles. The secondary throttle is held shut by a lever until the lever is lifted by a cam connected to the primary throttle. This holds the secondary throttle shut over the initial movement of the primary throttle. A latch can be moved forward to hold the secondary throttle shut even after it has been released by the primary throttle. The latch can be operated manually or automatically.
