A projection welding system for parts made of aluminium sheeting uses projections in the shape of a cone with an outside dia. at the base of the convex cone of two to three- times the sheet metal thickness. The height of this cone is not less than the thickness and not more than twice its value. A projection with the suggested geometry is capable of absorbing the prepress force of the electrode which is required for the welding operation and concentrates the electrode force and welding current at the predetermined spot in the optimum fashion.
