PURPOSE:To improve the repetitive life of recording and erasing by using the same material to form the base material of a mixed layer and the material of a protective layer. CONSTITUTION:This recording medium is made into the structure consisting in dispersing a recording material 4 into the base material 3 form the mixed layer and using the same material to form the base material of this mixed layer 2 and the protective layer 5. An abrupt change in the physical properties such as heat conductivity and coefft. of linear expansion at the boundary face between the mixed layer 2 and the protective layer 5 is eliminated and the local concn. of the stress arising from the repetition of recording and erasing is obviated, by which the repeating life of the recording and erasing is improved. The base material 3 is preferably materials which have the m.p. higher than the m.p. of the recording material and do not solutionize with the recording material, for example, dielectrics such as Al2O3, SiO2, GeO2, and WO3 and the combinations thereof. The recording material 4 is a chacogen compd. alloy, etc., consisting basically of Ge, Te, Se, etc. The protective layer 5 is formed of the same material as the material of the base material 3. |
