Card controlled portable data unit - has order and sales data card reading with remote transmission over radio link

A portable data processing unit is designed to operate with a magnetic data card containing sales and order data. The unit is linked over a radio transmitter to a central unit. The system is particularly suited to usage in pharmacies or similar establishment. The portable unit has a keyboard for the entry of data and a numerical display. A built-in reader/printer allows data to be read or written onto a magnetic card. The read/write unit (14) is coupled to a card reader (15) that either uses magnetic sensity, or, if punched cards are used has photo detectors. The unit is controlled by a cpu (18) linked to a programme memory (19) and a working data memory (20) handling transfers over the radio link (21).
