PURPOSE:To avoid a heat shock to a ceramic insert in shrinkage fit, by placing the ceramic insert in a cylindrical part provided on the inside of a cylinder head and tightly fitting a metal ring on the peripheral surface of the cylindrical part to apply compressive stress to the insert. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical part 4, which partly defines a swirl chamber 3, is provided on the inside of a cylindrical head 1. A ceramic insert 5 is placed in the cylindrical part 4. Since the cylindrical part 4 is elastically deformed by a metal ring 9 tightly fitted on the peripheral surface of the part 4, the insert 5 receives a compressive force from the cylindrical part 4 so that the insert is surely held in the part 4. The width of the metal ring 9 is set equal to or slightly more than the thickness of the injection port secton 7 of the ceramic insert 5 to indirectly apply compressive stress to the injection port section 7 through the cylindrical part 4. |
