NEW MATERIAL:An extract, obtained by extracting a plant of the genus Epimedium with either one of a mixed solvent of a water-miscible organic solvent, e.g. a lower alcohol, ketone or ether, with water or water, defatting the resultant aqueous extract, and dialyzing the defatted extract. Positive to any one of the anthrone- sulfuric acid reaction, ferric chloride reaction, Molisch reaction, skatole reaction and Bial reaction, and having a ultraviolet absorption spectrum lambdamax(nm)=270. USE:An immunological enhancer capable of enhancing the phagocytosis of mobile and fixed marcophages in tests on mice and also the cellular immunity against BC-47 cells (derived from the cancer of the bladder in ACI-strain rats). PROCESS:The whole herb of the genus Epidemium is extracted with a mixed solvent of a water-miscible organic solvent with water or water, defatted and dialyzed to give the aimed extract. |
