NEW MATERIAL:A vanillyl alcohol derivative shown by the formula (R is 3-6C alkyl). EXAMPLE:Vanillyl n-propyl ether. USE:A useful ingredient for a salty taste matter as a flavoring and plaster for the skin, especially heat-sensitive plaster. Having extremely strong salty taste. When a solution obtained by diluting it with a solvent is applied to the skin, it produces a feeling like a burn. PROCESS:For example, a 3-6C alcohol is blended with about 5wt% conc. hydrochloric acid and heated at about 70 deg.C to give a strongly acidic alcohol, to which vanillyl alcohol is added slowly and reacted completely while being kept at 70 deg.C. After the reaction is over, hydrochloric acid is neutralized with an alkali aqueous solution and a compound shown by the formula is obtained by extracting with a solvent. |
