PURPOSE:To efficiently perform a gravitational separation of nonmagnetic solid substance, by providing a separating zone spreading over the upper and lower sides of an opening of a V-shaped ditch, across which the flow direction is made to incline to the horizontal. CONSTITUTION:Permanent magnets 1 of which under part is connected, are formed into a V-shaped magnets which are arranged symmetrically with respect to the plane 10 inclined by an angle theta from the vertical. A space C between the magnets 1 and its upper part, a space A above the magnets 1, and a space B above the magnets 1 and the outer side part, are all united into one body i.e. a tank 11, which is filled with magnetic fluid 2. When nonmagnetic solid substance is fed obliquely from an upper side into the fluid 2 of the A part in the tank 11, the nonmagnetic solid substance of low specific gravity moves across the upper part of the magnets 1 to the B part to settle into the bottom of the tank, and the solid substance of high specific gravity moves through a separating zone 4 into the magnetic fluid of the C part to settle and finally to pile up at the bottom of the tank. Thus the separation is performed efficiently depending on the difference in specific gravity of the solid substance. |
