PURPOSE:To obtain a vertical orientation properties having a high stability with time and a high reproducibility, by using a mixture of a specific silane coupling agent and a titanium compound for an orientation processing agent. CONSTITUTION:For an orientation processing agent which is coated by printing on the surface of a substrate adjacent to the liquid crystal, a coating liquid obtained by adding the cellulose polymer such as ethyl cellulose or the like as a thickener to a mixture solution of a silane coupling agent having a long-chain alkyl group and the tetraalkoxy titanate or its polymer is used to be subjected to a heat treatment at 100 deg.C-200 deg.C after formation of a film by printing. The octadecyl triethoxy silane, hexadecyl trimethoxy silane or the like are used as the silane coupling agent and the tetrabutoxy titanate or the like are used as the titanium compound. The mixing ratio of the coupling agent to the titanium compound is preferably regulated to 0.1-10 expressed in terms of Ti/Si. |
