PURPOSE:To obtain a structural body of high mechanical strength and high purification rates for purification of exhaust gases by filling porous ceramics into a structural body having a through-hole. CONSTITUTION:Cordierite powder, water, and an org. binder are kneaded, and the mixture is molded into a cylindrical structural body 1 by an extrusion molding method. After drying, the spongelike org. compound impregnated with mixed slurry of an org. binder such as methyl cellulose and cordierite powder is inserted into the through-hole 1b, and after drying and reimpregnating are repeated a number of times, it is calcined. In this way, the structural body for purification of exhaust gases of the construction wherein foamed ceramics 2 are inserted into the through- hole 1b of the cylindrical structural body 1 of cordierite base is manufactured. |
