PURPOSE:To provide a cooling method with simple construction and easy exchanging of rolls possible by feeding and discharging water into and from the space part concentric with the roll under the surface of the revolving roll, through the opening with a water stopping wall on one side surface of said roll. CONSTITUTION:A revolving roll 1 to be used for a quick cooling method of molten metal in producing, for example, a thin metallic strip is provided with a space part 2 concentric with the roll 1 under the surface thereof. One side surface of the roll 1 is opened by forming a water stopping wall 3 which projects in the central direction of the roll, and a water feed nozzle 4 and a discharge pipe 5 are inserted through said opening into the space part 2. If water is fed from the nozzle 4 in such a way, the water forms a water layer 6 on the rear surface of the roll in the space part 2 by the effect of centrifugal force, thereby cooling the roll 1. The water enters the inside of the pipe 5 after cooling and is thus discharged. |
