PURPOSE:To permit to detect the trouble of a position detector easily by a method wherein the upstream side position detector is decided that it is out of order when a detecting output of the upstream side position detector, which means that the passing of paper is not finished yet, is obtained at a timing wherein the paper has passed through a downstream side position detector already. CONSTITUTION:In case an upstream side paper set sensor is not out of order, the detecting output D2 is lowered to a logical level 'L', therefore, flip flop circuit 52 is set and reduces paper choke detecting signal to logical level 'L'. Accordingly, paper choke signal JAM is maintained in logical level 'H' and informs that paper choke is not being generated. In case the paper set sensor is out of order and the detecting output D2 is fixed at the logical level 'H', the flip flop circuit 52 is reset and builds up the paper choke detecting signal S21 to the logical level 'H' and descends the paper choke signal JAM to the logical level 'L'. As a result, the trouble of the paper set sensor PS may be informed by utilizing the paper choke signal JAM.
