PURPOSE:To make possible the thorough inoculation in a casting mold by installing a porous ceramic body imposed with a prescribed inoculant into a molten metal passage of the casting mold so as to part the passage. CONSTITUTION:An inoculating device 12 is constituted by containing the granular inoculant 8 into the recess of a ceramic foam 2. Such device 12 is so set in a pouring basin 18 of a runner 16 which is the molten metal passage of the casting mole 14 as to part the passage. The melted inoculant passes through the pores of an inoculating core 2 and flows into the mold 14 when the molten metal 22 of a high temp. flows into the mold. The inoculation by this method is executed in the place nearest the part in the casting mold 14 where the product is going to solidify in the above-mentioned manner and the possibility of self-annihilation is eliminated. The amt. of the inoculant to be added is considerably decreased.
