In a terry-fabric loom, the reed is pivotally mounted on the sley, such that the position of the reed at beat-up can be selectively varied by means of a toggle joint controlled by a rocking bar, whereby the toggle joint may be extended or folded at the moment of beat-up, to give full or partial beat-up respectively. A spring holds the toggle joint in an extended position unless a pawl attached to the rocker bar engages a step in a toggle-plate forming part of the joint, causing the toggle joint to fold under the action of the rocker, preventing the full beat-up. This construction prevents premature rebounding of the reed during the full beat-up, and produces less noise than previous mechanisms.
|
