A window wiper device for vehicles operating in intermittent wiping mode as a function of the distance covered and the time passed but not proportionally with respect to the speed of the vehicle. It comprises a distance sensor (11), a timing signal generator (12), a counter (24) and a wiper driver circuit (17) and is thus capable of being matched to the weather conditions such as drizzle, fine rain or the like to an optimum degree during intermittent operation of the intermediate time interval of the wipers, particularly when the vehicle is travelling slowly or stops. <IMAGE>
