The invention relates to new antibiotics produced by a new species of Nocardia designated Nocardia argentinensis Huang sp. nov. ATCC 31306. Specific novel antibiotics are designated Compounds 47,444, 47,985 and 48,039, the first of which has been isolated in pure form as an amorphous solid characterised by solubility, elemental analysis, optical rotation, and ultraviolet and infra-red absorption spectra. Antibacterial activity, particularly against normally resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus, is disclosed.
