Flocculation of sols is effected by adding Al sulphate (I) and Na aluminate (II) simultaneously, but pref. separately, in a (I):(II) ratio of 2:1. (I) is pref. used as an acidic soln. with a concn. of up to 20% which is added in an amt. of at least 10 ml per cubic m of sol. (II) is pref. used as an alkaline soln. with a concn. of up to 40%, which is added in an amt. of at least 5 ml per cubic m of sol. The process can be applied, e.g. to waste water contg. colloidally dispersed Cu(OH)2 or phosphates. Flocculation can be achieved over a broad pH range (5.5-9), in the absence of carbonate hardness, and without addn. of polyelectrolytes.
|
