Recording and/or playback of electric signals - using two recording appts. operated over alternating tracks so that inactive one is started before end of active track

The process is particularly intended for video signals, using a magnetic tape and a longitudinal recording principle. During recording and/or playback the direction of tape run is reversed several times. During each reversal a different tape track is used, while the tape moves passed the magnetic head assembly in both directions between two tape reels at a preset velocity. Two identical tape recorders are used and are operated from track to track alternately such that the inactive recorder of the moment is started shortly before the active recorder has reached the track end. After a rated velocity has been reached, the recording or playback of the then active recorder is stopped. The tape transport direction of the stop recorder is then reversed. Pref. the two recorders have a common recording and/or playback circuit, selectively switchable to both magnetic head assemblies of the respective recorders.
