The capacitors (C1....Cn) are connected in parallel between a common bus-bar (4) and a charging bus-bar (1). A diode (DL1...DLn) is placed between the capacitor terminal and the charging bus-bar. The diode prevents any reverse current flow and thus the discharge of energy into a fault, e.g. a short-circuited capacitor or fault in the charger (2). The capacitor output circuit is through a separate bus-bar (3) to which one end of the load (R) is connected, the other end going to the common bar (4). The discharge, or output connection from capacitor to bus-bar may be similarly protected by a diode (DE1....DEn). In this way a destructive discharge into a fault, for whatever reason, is effectively prevented. Typical applications are to pulse generators for exposure lighting, laser or X-ray equipment.
|
