Blast furnace coke mfr. - from stacks of press mouldings moving on cars through contra-flow oven

Method is described for the prodn. of blast furnace coke using coking coal blends which have been pressed to mouldings and travel through a horizontal con-flow coke oven in two parallel tunnels in the opposite direction. Primary air is replaced by oxygen and the coking and carbonising temps. are held at over 1100 deg.C. The crude gas is extracted at over 700 deg.C as clear gas. This widens the range of coal grades for the blend. The contra-flow oven operates continuously and is simple to control. Its heat consumption is low and the severe pollution of the environment by horizontal coke oven batteries is eliminated.
