Selective catalytic redn. of NOx with NH3, without using high pressure, is carried out in a reactor with one or more beds by operating the reactor in such a way that the NOx conversion is max. 67% per bed, with corresp. dosage of the reducing agent to each bed. - Pref. the molar ratio to reacted NOx is over-stoichiometric in the first bed and approx. sub-stoichiometric in the subsequent beds.
