PURPOSE:To produce an alloy containing a lowered amount of impurities and having a high hydrogen occlusion property, in the method of refining a titanium alloy useful for hydrogenation in a high frequency induction furnace, by maintaining an inert gas atmosphere in the furnace, and constructing the refractories of the furnace, which will be in contact with an alloy melt, with CaO type. CONSTITUTION:When the Ti alloy useful as a hydrogen occlusion alloy is refined, a high frequency induction furnace is used. An atmosphere in the furnace is composed of an inert gas such as Ar or the like. The lining of the furnace is composed of electromelted calcia. The lining may partially contain other calcia, e.g. quick lime, in addition to the electromelted calcia. Consequently, a Ti alloy having a high hydrogen occlusion amount can be obtained, without lowering its quality due to the absorption of impurities from the furnace lining or the atmosphere. |
