PURPOSE:To obtain a tip with strong bonding strength between a matrix material and a nitride layer and excellent cutting capacity by a method wherein a WC matrix material containing a binding metal is subjected to heat treatment in a nitrogen atmosphere to form an alloy layer with a low nitride content on the surface thereof and, subsequently, said alloy layer is coated with TiC or the like. CONSTITUTION:A WC base hard alloy containing WC and at least one binding metal selected from TiN, TaN, NbN is subjected to heat treatment at 800-1,300 deg.C in a nitrogen containing atmosphere. Thereby, at least one of TiN, TaN, NbN in a layer in the vicinity of the surface is moved to said surface to form a nitride layer and an alloy layer of the WC and the binding metal with a reduced nitride content. Next, TiC and TiCN are coated on a surface of the resulting substrate body by a chemical gas phase vapor depositing method or the like. By this treatment, the matrix material and the nitride layer are strongly bound through carbonitride and the WC base coating tip for cutting with excellent cutting capacity is obtained. |
