FILTER HOUSING CONNECTED TO HOT CELL

Filter housing for use in association with a hot cell (24) comprises a filter cartridge (32) for separating radioactive substances from gases, for example for separating radioactive iodine by adsorption on activated charcoal. The cartridge is attached to a pivoting lid (1) for the filter housing, and the lid closes and opens in a horizontal partition wall (22) between two chambers (25,26). These chambers represent the inlet and outlet sides of the housing inside the hot cell (24). When the lid is closed the cartridge is position and sealed to its operating condition. The pivoting mechanism for the lid is mounted above the partition (22) and this lid (1) also acts as a shielding cover and part of the shielding wall (22). The arrangement enables all the components of the filter to be easily accessible from the top, i.e. from the upper side of the shielding partition.
