<p>Hot waste stack gas or flue gas having a particulate loading and contg. noxious prods. of combustion gases which, when exposed to cool heat exchange surfaces condense to produce active corrosive liq. is subjected to heat exchange to recover usable heat. As a first heat exchange step an aqs. liq. is brought into direct physical contact with the hot gas stream to extract heat, raise the temp. of the aqs. liq. and condense the stream by dispersing the particulate loading in the aqs. liq. and dissolving the noxious gases in it. A cool cleansed gas stream and a dirty heated liq. is produced. As a second heat exchange step the dirty heated liq. is cooled by heat exchange with a cooler fluid. Heat from the hot stack gas or flue gas is recovered without dirtying the cooler fluid or producing corrosive liq. from the noxious gases during the second heat exchange step.</p> |
