Ink supply system for ink jet printer - has flexible main reservoir accommodating pressure variations in secondary reservoir supplying ink jet

The ink supply system has main and secondary ink reservoirs (7,4) coupled via a feed tube (6).The ink is delivered to the ink jet recording head (1) by the secondary ink reservoir (4) which has a rigid construction, the main ink reservoir (7) formed as a flat flexible bag able to absorb the pressure variations produced within the interior of the secondary ink reservoir (4). Pref. the two reservoirs (7,4) form a sealed circuit, while the secondary ink reservoir (4) is displaced together with the recording head (1) along a carriage track in a to-and-fro movement. The main ink reservoir can be uncoupled from the feed tube (6) for replacement and it is pref. formed by heavy polymer films with an intermediate metal layer.
