The conveyor has two intermeshed grids of longitudinal slats. One grid is fixed and the other is mobile to move its slats vertically and longitudinally between slats of the fixed grid. The mobile grid follows a repetitive cycle as follows:- The grid rises so that its slats lift the prod. from the slats of the stationary grid. The mobile grid advances longitudinally with its load. The mobile grid descends, leaving the load supported by the slats of the fixed grid. The mobile grid returns, empty, to its original position ready to repeat the cycle. The lifting motion of the mobile grid is obtained by advancing an inclined plane cam longitudinally between the grid and a a two stage rise, i.e. a short steep incline followed by a long gradual incline. The load is lifted on the gradual incline. The first stage of the cam is pref. inclined at between 40 and 50 deg. to the horizontal and the second stage at between 10 and 15 deg. The cam is incorporated in conveyor mechanisms used in continuous pasteurisers and sterilisers for bottles of beer, jars of fruit juice etc. The short steep incline raises the slats of the mobile grid so that their top edges are level with the top edges of the fixed slates. The actual lifting of the loaded grid is effected by the gradual incline. This reduces the power required by 25 to 30 per cent. compared with a steady rise incline.
|
