摘要 <p>This is an addn. to 79.17310, which described a crucible contg. a molten metal or alloy, which is subjected to pressure so it flows through a die in the wall of the crucible. The jet of molten metal leaving the die enters a chamber contg. a gas mixt. employed to cool the jet so a metal or alloy wire is obtd. The cooling gas mixt. now contains hydrogen, and also a hydrogen cpd. reacting chemically and endothermically when in contact with the wire so a large amt. of free hydrogen is liberated. Experiments with the process and plant described in the main patent have shown the importance of hydrogen in the cooling gas mixt., not only as a major constituent of the mixt., but also as the prod. of an endothermic reaction, so the cooling effect is increased.</p>
