The mattress consists of a plastics foam core (1) with ventilation ducts (2) opening outwards. The air ducts (2) are distributed in staggered formation over the top and bottom surfaces, and are joined by sprung sections alternately on the top and bottom. The air ducts (2) are spaced equidistantly apart and form cubes. Alternatively, the air ducts may be closer together in the middle. The ducts (2) are formed by a cutting or milling machine.
