The machine includes two long folding elements movable relative to each other. The folding elements have in their longitudinal direction one wedge-shaped recess each and also a wedge-shaped projection. The folding elements are turnable relative to each other in such a way that in each case the recess of one folding element faces the projection of the other one. A cyclic control device regulates the axial and rotary movement of the folding elements. A transport device for the material to be folded works in synchronism with the control device.
