ERROR CORRECTION METHOD FOR DIGITAL TELEVISION SIGNAL

PURPOSE:To reduce the deterioration of picture quality due to the overcorrection by obtaining the level difference between the sample having possibility for inclusion of an error and the corrected sample and replacing the sample with the corrected sample only when the level difference is larger a prescribed threshold level. CONSTITUTION:A video signal sample and its corrected sample are inputted through the input terminals 1 and 2 respectively and the level difference between both samples is obtained by a subtraction circuit 3. While a prescribed threshold level acceptable to the human eyes is inputted through an input terminal 5 and compared with the absolute value of the level difference obtained by an absolute value circuit 4 via a comparator 6. Then a switch 8 selects the corrected sample obtained through the terminal 2 when the absolute value is larger than the threshold level and at the same time a flag F showing an error uncorrectable state is inputted through an input terminal 7. Thus the wrong sample correction can be avoided.
