INSTANTANEOUS RATE KINETIC METHOD FOR DETERMINING TOTAL PROTEIN IN CEREBROSPINAL FLUID

An instantaneous rate kinetic method for determining total protein in cerebrospinal fluid which avoids the generally high results of prior art biuret methods. The method comprises the steps of: (a) reacting the total protein present in said cerebrospinal fluid sample with a biuret reagent to form colored reaction products; and (b) spectrophotometrically measuring the instantaneous rate of change of the formation of the colored products. The spectrophotometric measurement is directly proportional to said total protein concentration in the sample being assayed.
