The extruded roof tiles etc. as transferred from a conveyor track to a storage support such that the tiles from an extrusion machine, lying on the conveyor with its long axis in the direction of transport are moved into the region of a gripper device. This device lifts the tiles from the conveyor and places them on to the storage support. The tiles are turned through 90 degrees during the transfer operation and are brought, after rotation, to the necessary separation distance required for depositing on the storage support.
