The continuous-operation ball mill grinding vessel is closed by a lid (2) and provided with double conical grinding surface (3), into which a rotor (5) fits. Material to be ground is introduced via a tube (14) and the finished material leaves via an outlet (20), while baffles (22) prevent the grinding elements from leaving the grinder. Following every stoppage of the grinder the grinding elements tend to sink towards the bottom of the vessel on both surfaces of the vessel. The vessel stationary part has a recess (33) accommodating one half of a coupling with a spring-loaded axially shiftable bush (28) on the upper surface. Inclined teeth mesh with similar elements on the upper half (29) of the coupling. During restarting, when the rotor is blocked in the gap (4), a relative rotary motion between the two coupling halves result in a slight axial shift of the rotor.
