Radiation permeable window with metal foil - which forms annular seal with its frame unit and is insertable between flanges

The window is intended particularly for hermetically enclosed, evacuated electron or particle radiation apparatus, electric discharge vessels etc. The window frame and the thin metal foil, enclosed by the same, form a component which can be inserted between flanges. In addition the frame forms a sealing ring for the flange connection. Pref. the frame is in two parts, i.e. a ring with an outer rim on one side and an inner ring insertable into the outer rim. The inner ring (8) may have a shouldered groove on one side, serving for clamping the foil during assembly of the frame part. This forms simultaneously a cavity for retaining a sealing and securing substance. The frame parts may be of copper and the metal foil (6) of nickel-chromium alloy, 25 microns thick. The sealing substance may be a high vacuum brazing solder. The dimensions of the frame assembly correspond to standardised flange dimensions.
