A composition for the treatment of protein and carbohydrate containing animal feedingstuffs e.g. cereals in the form of an aqueous solution contains in weight percent of the total weight:- Sulphite waste liquid or lignone sulphonate 5 to 1 formaldehyde (HCHO) 9 to 2 one or more organic acids 30 to 6 The feedingstuff may be treated in the moist state (moisture content 15-85%) by admixture with the composite of the invention which is effective to improve the preservation of the feedingstuff and reduce the degree of breakdown of the feedingstuff in the rumen of the animal. The acid may be C1-6 aliphatic carboxylic acid and the composition may further comprise urea, methanol or utropine as a stabiliser.
