PURPOSE:To obtain optical pulses having excellent reproducibility without loosing output power, by incorporating an output stabilizing means into a Q switch means in the form of an additional circuit. CONSTITUTION:A solid state laser rod 1 is excited by a lamp 3. An ultrasonic Q switch element 4 is inserted in a resonator comprising mirrors 2 and 2'. Electric power from a high frequency power source 9 is modified and given to a high speed switch 10. Part of the laser output is detected 5 and suitably amplified 6. The low frequency component is removed by a capacitor 7, and the resulting AC signal is applied to the modifier 8. The operating point is set by the voltage of a DC bias circuit 11. The resonator loss which is proportional to the laser output is given by the modified signal obtained in this way, and the output is stabilized by the negative feedback. In this simple constitution, the slackening oscillation under the preliminary oscillating state is suppressed, the optical output immediately before the Q switch and inversion distribution become constant, and the reproducibility of the pulse output and the time of emission can be enhanced without loosing the output power. |
