<p>A carbon monoxide detecting device is disclosed which exhibits a step-wise change in film current over a preselected range in carbon monoxide concentration and is very suitable for use with a warning device. A preferred embodiment of the detector comprises an insulating substrate, a first film predominantly of stannic oxide on said insulating substrate wherein a donor selected from antimony and bismuth is incorporated therein, a second film predominantly of platinum formed on the first film, and a film intermediate the first and second film, which intermediate film predominantly comprises stanic oxide and has an acceptor selected from the group consisting of platinum, aluminum and boron. The first, intermediate, and second films are formed, for example, by a high frequency reactive sputtering method.</p> |
