A capsule 1 is driven into soil 2 by the action of a percussion mechanism 7, filling the capsule 1 with soil and causing soil to pass through it. The capsule 1 is then withdrawn from the resulting hole 3, e.g. by a switch and/or by reversing the percussive action, simultaneously removing from the hole 3 the soil that has passed through the capsule 1. Thereafter the soil may be removed from the capsule 1 itself. During withdrawal the trailing end 4 of the capsule 1 is preferably closed by a gate 10. <IMAGE> |
