In a batch-treatment process for the wet-finishing of textiles, the material is padded with the treatment liquor before being wound cold onto a horizontal mandrel which is rotated within a high-frequency electromagnetic field spanning an arc of the roll of approx. 50 deg. The field is generated between a rod electrode within the hollow mandrel and a plate electrode outside the roll, giving a frequency of approx. 10MHz for a roll of 1m dia. The mandrel is perforated to permit the passage of steam, air, etc. through the roll, which is housed within a chamber of insulating material having a low dielectric loss. This procedure ensures uniform treatment of all parts of the fabric without having unnecessarily to prolong the treatment time, and does not necessitate unrolling the fabric for rinsing and drying.
|
