The gyroscope with two degrees of freedom has internal frames and an external rotor wheel which carries an objective lens. The rotor is balanced by a counterweight. The optical axis of the lens is colinear with the sighting axis which is stabilised to receive optical radiation at a detector from an object onto which it is directed. Within the rotor are located two frames which articulate and on one of which is attached an optical reflector prism which directs the beam to the centre of the gyroscope. The device is vehicle mounted and provides stabilisation against the effects of vibration or movement.
