The sectional hydraulic control valve has an inlet (1), a working section (2) and an outlet (3) clamped together. Mating forces of adjacent sections have corresponding passages (9, 15, 19) in register and isolated at the interface by planar sealing surfaces. These are separated by depressed (27) drain areas enclosed by an 'O' ring. This fits in a groove (26) machined in one face. The drain areas are in fluid communication with the 'O' ring groove, and drain to a low pressure region in the valve. This region may be in the valve outlet (4).
