1484536 Expanding tobacco leaves and food products AIRCO INC 29 Jan 1975 [5 Feb 1974] 3897/75 Headings A2B, A2C and A2E A method of expanding an organic substance especially shredded tobacco comprises pressurising a vessel to 200-1070 p.s.ia., immersing the organic substance in liquid carbon dioxide while maintaining this pressure, depressurising to substantially atmospheric, removing the impregnated substance from the vessel, and heating the substance to cause at least 10% expansion. Example IV describes the application of this method to prunes, apricots, pears, raisins and tea leaves. Suitable plant (not shown) in which the method may be performed is also described. |
